While completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Art at the University of Southern Indiana, Sara Kay Rhoades specialized in bronze sculpture, but her interest in lapidary and jewelry were sparked by her husband’s grandparents, Albert and Virginia Rhoades. Ginnybert, as their grandchildren lovingly called them, traveled the US quarrying their own stones, using lapidary techniques to cab them, and forging silver findings to finish their jewelry.
Sara’s award-winning jewelry consists of high quality silver with precious and semi-precious stones and hand forged silver. Recently Sara’s work has featured handmade silver and copper findings with organic themes, specifically floral and sea shapes.
Sara divides her time between raising her daughter, Lyra Virginia, playing Words with Friends with her husband Nick, making art jewelry, and working at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art. She recently finished her MA in Liberal Studies at the University of Southern Indiana.
